Prayer Request

From Jeff Honea

On Tuesday afternoon a three year old boy, named Colten, was severely injured in a lawn mowing accident in Polo, Missouri. He lost one of his legs in the accident, and the other had to be amputated. Extensive injuries to his back side has left him without a rectum. He lies in a drug induced coma at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. Keep this child and his family in your prayers over the next several months. He is at a very high risk for developing infection because of how the injury occurred. As for the second part of this request I was not sure of how to even begin to word it. This family has no health insurance coverage. The need for help will reach far beyond his medical bills. This is a young family who's father is self employed. A account has been set up in his name ( Colten Newman), at Bank Northwest in Polo, 305 Main St. Polo, Missouri 64671 Telephone #660-354-2111.

In closing, we all receive and send emails to each other, often with a long pre-forwarding list of people we don't know. Words of encouragement that might have been the right message for someone. But, sometimes it takes more than just hitting the forward button. If what I could imagine for this family, it would be, that everyone that receives this email, would place one dollar in an envelope and mail it to the address above.

Our Angel Food Ministry reaches Iraq

Nancy Smith, Angel Food Coordinator
First Baptist Church
Carrollton, MO

This is such a great story about how Angel Food can reach around the world. I thought you might be interested in using it in one of you upcoming issues of the magazine. It sure did impress our Angel Foodworkers when she shared it with them on Saturday during distribution time.

One of the ladies who orders Angel Food each month just told me a true story about how our Angel Food ministry reached her nephew and his friends stationed in Iraq.

Each month she sends him a care package and includes the Angel Food magazine along with the tracts we put in them. He in turn shares those with his friends - many who never get any mail. After two of his friends read in that printed material how to accept Christ as their Lord and Savior, they came asking him if that was true and if they could become Christians too. He, being a Christian himself, said that was true, shared God's Word with them and they prayed the sinners prayer right then and there. Since those first two were saved a total of five have now become Christians with his witness and Angel Food. Five souls were saved around the world through Angel Food Ministries and YOU had a part.

What a wonderful witness Angel Food is to those in our community and around the world. That's what Angel Food is all about - one person helping another person as we share Jesus with our surrounding area

I couldn't keep the tears from flowing

By Monta Hedge

We had a wonderful D-day. We delivered 6 donated boxes to needy families in our community. Sunday morning four of the families were at church. Three beautiful souls came to know Jesus as their personal Savior!!!!! I couldn't keep the tears from flowing. Jesus is working through our church family.

I praise God for The Angel Food Ministry because it has given us a vehicle to reach out to the lost and unchurched of our city. We are able to touch people with the love and the Gospel of Christ, and this honors God. Our Church has been blessed by this ministry because it has funded our benevolent ministry to the community, provided food for local women's shelters, provided food for local Ministers fellowships, and it has brought our Church together as we have ministered in the name of the Lord. This is a wonderful ministry and I praise God for allowing us to be a part of this great work.

City council: No permit required for food program

By Peg McNichol ~ Southeast Missourian

After a lengthy public hearing, the Cape Girardeau City Council voted to skip the special permit process for Christ Church of the Heartland.

The church asked for the permit after the city investigated neighbors' complaints of a retail-style operation in their residential neighborhood. The church sells inexpensive groceries bought wholesale by the Georgia-based not-for-profit Angel Food Ministries. On Oct. 10, the planning and zoning commission told the church it should sell the groceries elsewhere. As the council's 5 p.m. study session wrapped up, Mayor Jay Knudtson told council members they had three options for addressing the church's monthly grocery operation at its 720 Bertling St. location, which is zoned R-1 -- the strictest of the city's four levels of residential zoning.

He said they could vote to uphold the planning and zoning commission's unanimous decision to deny the church a special-use permit, or they could reject the commission's recommendation and approve the permit.

"I'm personally of the opinion, pending comment, there is no special-use permit required," he said.

Ward 1 Councilman John Voss, after saying he was disappointed with the church's pursuit of a five-fold expansion and its decision to construct a parking lot in an area once filled with woods, made the motion that no permit was required.

"It is a ministry," he said.

Councilman Matt Hopkins seconded the motion. The vote was made unanimous by Knudtson and councilwomen Debra Tracy and Loretta Schneider. Charlie Herbst and Marcia Ritter were absent from the meeting; both were out of town.
